RIZACT

INDICATIONS

Rizact is used for treating migraine headaches with or without aura (eg, flashing lights, wavy lines, dark spots). It should not be used to prevent migraines or to treat cluster headaches. It works by narrowing dilated blood vessels in the brain, relieving migraine headaches.

INSTRUCTIONS

Use rizatriptan as directed by your doctor. Take rizatriptan by mouth with or without food. Take rizatriptan with plenty of fluid.

It is best to take a dose of rizatriptan as soon as you notice symptoms of a migraine attack. If your symptoms do not improve after the first dose, do not take a second dose for the same attack. Contact your doctor.

DOSAGE

Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If your symptoms do not improve after the first dose, do not take a second dose for the same attack. Contact your doctor.

Do not take more than the amount prescribed by your doctor in a 24-hour period. If you miss a dose of rizatriptan and you still have a headache, follow your doctor’s dosing instructions. Contact your doctor right away if you are unsure of what to do if you miss a dose. Do not take rizatriptan more often than prescribed. Do not take 2 doses at once.

STORAGE

Store at 15-30°C. Keep out of the reach of children and away from pets.

Do NOT use Rizact if:

you are allergic to any ingredient in rizatriptan; you have a history of ischemic heart disease (eg, angina, a heart attack), coronary artery disease (CAD), other moderate to severe heart problems, brain blood vessel disease (eg, a stroke, a transient ischemic attack), or other blood vessel disease (eg, Raynaud syndrome, ischemic bowel disease); you have uncontrolled high blood pressure; you have certain types of migraine headache (hemiplegic, basilar); you are taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (eg, phenelzine) within the past 14 days; you have used certain other migraine medicines within the past 24 hours.

Some medical conditions may interact with rizatriptan. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

-if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding

-if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement

-if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances

-if you have a history of diabetes, kidney or liver problems, heart problems, chest pain, shortness of breath, high blood cholesterol, or high blood pressure

-if you are on dialysis

Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome: Dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; fatigue; nausea; weakness.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; unusual hoarseness); bloody diarrhea; burning, numbness, or tingling of the hands or feet; chest heaviness; chest, neck, or jaw pain, tightness, or pressure; decreased coordination; excessive sweating; fainting; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; fever; hallucinations; mental or mood changes (eg, agitation); muscle spasms; seizure; severe nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea; severe or persistent headache or dizziness; shortness of breath; stomach pain; symptoms of stroke (eg, confusion, one-sided weakness, slurred speech); tremor; unusual weakness; very cold or blue fingers or toes; vision changes or loss of vision.
